How has the continued, increased use and reliance on technology socially impacted on us?

And has this proven to be a good or bad thing? Do the benefits of technology outweigh the negatives?

I love technology and it has impacted us enormously, so this subject is huge. I will only touch one aspect: learning. Seems like the process of learning has shifted from sitting and reading books, to finding the extracts of information on the internet. I`m not too worried too much though, that the new generation will not have any true scholars and scientists- there always be people who are fanatically interested in some subject, while forcing others to do the tedious, mind numbing job just for a sake of a grade is useless anyway. It may be like the Photo shop or the Q-Base effect, when one might`ve thought that with these programs talent becomes redundant. Still there will always be people who suck at music and photography no matter what, while the talent of others shines through all the gadgets. It`s all good...
